Soundwaves: trainee music leaders 

Opportunity: a paid mentoring programme to help develop your career as a music leader working with young people in informal settings 

What is the role? 

Daisi is looking for 3 trainee music leaders who are interested in developing their skills in leading inclusive music making opportunities for vulnerable and hard to reach children and young people in Devon and Torbay. 

You will be mentored by an experienced, professional music leader and will have the opportunity to shadow, co-lead, as well as lead music sessions with young people, developing your skills at your own pace, with support from your mentor. 

The role is part time, working for approximately 8 hours per week for 41 weeks over a full year period. The fee is £124 per week. Sessions, days and training will be organised in collaboration with your mentor(s). 

Background information 

Daisi, is the arts education partnership organisation for Devon and Torbay and is a member of the Alliance for a Musically Inclusive England (AMIE). The Soundwaves project is funded and supported by Youth Music, the national music charity.  Daisi is delivering the Soundwaves project across Devon and Torbay in partnership with a variety of cultural and community-based organisations. 

Daisi’s Soundwaves project is part of a drive to increase the access to fully inclusive music making opportunities by building a wider, more diverse workforce and developing necassery skills where there are gaps in provision. 

Who can apply? 

Daisi are looking for people aged 18 and over who have an interest in establishing and developing a career working as a music leader with young people. You will need to be open to working with diverse groups of young people in a variety of settings including youth clubs, community settings and health and social care settings. You will also need to be interested in developing your skills across a wide range of musical styles and genres. Daisi is committed to creating a diverse workforce and is proud to be an equal opportunities employer.

Basis of Engagement 

You will be engaged as a freelance music leader and as such will be a self-employed individual. It will be the responsibility of the freelance music leader to fulfil their tax and NI obligations as a freelancer with HM Revenue and Customs on any payment received from this work.
