Bringing Creativity to Schools: How the Creative East Devon Fund Made a Difference

At Daisi, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to explore their creativity. Thanks to the support of the Creative East Devon Fund, we were able to bring seven inspiring arts workshops to four primary and three secondary schools across the district. The result? 254 young people getting hands-on with creative processes, building confidence, and discovering new ways to express themselves.

Creativity in Action

Each workshop was designed with the school’s specific goals in mind, ensuring that the experience was not only engaging but also meaningful. From printmaking to sculpture, students explored new techniques and pushed their creative boundaries. Teachers reported that these sessions weren’t just about making art—they also helped students develop resilience, problem-solving skills, and a sense of pride in their achievements.

The impact didn’t stop when the workshops ended. Exmouth Community College is now rethinking how to make printing more accessible to students, while Clyst Vale Community College is looking to build on the experience by introducing similar workshops for their supported learning group next year. This kind of lasting effect is exactly what we strive for—creativity sparking change beyond the classroom.

The Power of Collaboration

This project wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible collaboration between schools, artists, and our team at Daisi. The talented artists who led these workshops—James Lake, Lyndon Forster, and Simon Ripley—brought a wealth of experience and passion, inspiring both students and teachers alike. Teachers themselves found the experience valuable, with 100% saying they learned something new and would take those insights forward in their teaching.

More Than Just an Art Class

The feedback we received reinforced the wider benefits of creativity. 93% of students said they learned something new, and many described feeling calm and proud of what they created.

For some students, these workshops were more than just a fun experience—they were a confidence boost. One school highlighted how students pushed past their initial frustrations, learning that persistence and creativity go hand in hand.

“As a teacher of 19 years, this kind of workshop reinvigorates you and builds confidence to try new processes with students.”

Looking Ahead

This project has laid the foundation for future collaborations, and we’re excited about what’s next. The success of these workshops has already led to new opportunities, including an upcoming initiative focused on dance in schools near the River Otter. By continuing to showcase the impact of creativity in education, we’re able to leverage further funding and expand our reach.

At Daisi, we know that creativity has the power to transform lives. Whether it’s through building confidence, encouraging self-expression, or simply giving young people a moment to feel proud of what they’ve made, projects like these matter. We’re so grateful to the Creative East Devon Fund for making this possible—and we can’t wait to keep the momentum going!
