Girls into Golf – 7th February 2020

On Friday 7th February 2020 ten yr 10 girls from Tiverton High School joined Daisi for an exciting ‘outside the classroom’ day – half a day on a golf simulator, supported by Richard Coffin from Silverleigh Golf Centre, and half a day on an introductory ceramics workshop with Rupert Johnstone (RAMP pottery) at Devon Applied Art Workshop in Dunsmore. The day was a great success and a lot of fun. 10 more girls will repeat the experience on Friday 14th February.

Head of Art at Tiverton High School said: “This initiative is a great way for students to learn new skills while also appreciating the town’s local heritage.

The activities are inspired by world renowned golfer, Joyce Wethered. Joyce was the last remaining member of the Heathcoat-Amory family to live at National Trust property Knightshayes Court, where a room is dedicated to this part of her life with trophies, golf clubs and memorabilia on display.

In April, PGA head professional Alistair Welsher from Tiverton Golf Club is offering taster sessions to the girls from Tiverton High School and a ‘Mums and Daughters have- a-go session’ will take place on Saturday 18th April and Sunday 19th April

Jenny added: “The sessions have been great fun for our students so far, and we’re looking forward to the have-a-go golf taster sessions later in the year.
