Strengthening School Communities, one of Daisi’s inaugural projects, responded to the introduction of the government’s School Improvement Strategy, and looked at supporting this strategy through forms of artist-led creative activity within schools.
“Many of the teachers and adults from the community who came to help during the artsweek worked alongside children, making their own blocks and prints. The evening class that I ran brought in more people – children, teenagers and grandparents too.”
The project involved 15 schools across a period of 3 years, and focused on the broader contexts of school life, in particular the interrelationships through which both schools and classrooms operate, and the kind of school-community ethos which this serves to generate.
