The Melting Pot 2025

As part of Daisi’s Shifting Sounds project, which supports young people’s access to music in North Devon and Torridge, The Melting Pot returned for its third year. Following the success of previous events, Youth Music provided full support for another showcase celebrating the region’s emerging musical talent.

Hosted at The Plough Arts Centre in Torrington, the event brought together around 30 young performers in front of friends, family and the local community. For many, The Melting Pot offers the first opportunity to perform on a professional stage. Held on October 31st, the event was hailed by all as a spooktacular success.

The melting pot is a great opportunity for young people to share their creativity and learn from each other. There are limited creative events like this in North Devon and Torridge. It’s fantastic that kids from rural areas are being given the chance to express themselves musically.

Thanks for offering this to our young people. The organisers and hosts on the day are inspirational and so supportive of the performers, it’s an immensely positive and affirming experience for all involved.

A parent of a young performer

Funded by Youth Music and Devon Music Education Hub, Shifting Sounds continues to explore ways of helping young people connect, create, and perform. The Melting Pot is just one of several initiatives developed to provide spaces where young musicians can meet, collaborate, and be inspired by their peers – strengthening the region’s musical community. Also featured in the programme this year have been Electronic Music Workshops, read more about those here.

I had so much fun performing and meeting other young artists so I would like to thank everyone involved for making it such a memorable experience!

A young performer

The event was managed by local musicians Sam Lythgoe Jones and Baz Bix, alongside junior event managers Lola Compton and Leah Walsh, who took the lead on venue décor and performer networking. Across two stages, acts performed a diverse mix of genres, from solo singer-songwriters to bands, with styles ranging from pop and rock to folk and indie. The packed auditorium reflected the enthusiasm and appetite for live music among young people in the area.
