Young People
Daisi exists to make sure that young people, wherever you are and whatever your current circumstances, can have outstanding artistic experiences, in and out of school. Daisi is especially committed to finding ways to remove any barriers that are stopping young people from taking part in the arts. We want to support your school, your youth club, your community group to have great arts activity that you can get involved in.
Young people’s ideas and opinions about the arts and culture that you want to get involved in are vital to Daisi. We listen to your voice in the following ways, but we are always keen to improve and to hear more from you!
Daisi artists put young people at the centre of their workshop practice. They design their workshops to create safe, supportive, exciting spaces where you can have your own ideas and find out about your own creativity. They are always adapting and developing their workshop plans as they learn from you.
Daisi always asks children and young people to tell us about their Daisi experience. We want to know how it was for you, and how it could be better.
Daisi builds projects that respond to what young people say about what they want. We often run creative consultation workshops to find out more about your needs, and we collaborate with your teachers and your youth workers so that where you are on your creative journey is the most important starting point.
Daisi is researching how young people can influence the arts opportunities around them. We are doing this by collaborating with youth clubs and groups. You can see some of our findings in our soon to be released Youth Voice Toolkit below.
Daisi offers work experience opportunities for young people, normally from age 14 upwards. If you are interested in a career in the arts and would like the opportunity to work within a busy arts office, please get in touch.
“The University of Exeter is committed to delivering an exceptional student experience and to support all of our students to realise their potential. Programmes such as Professional Pathways are therefore vitally important in providing an opportunity for students to both develop employability skills and gain valuable experience, alongside their studies. This is only made possible through organisations like yourselves engaging in schemes such as Pathways and aiding our students as they begin their career journeys. I wish to add my personal thanks for your support of the programme here at Exeter.”
Daisi creates as many leadership opportunities for young people as possible within our projects. For example, our Soundwaves music project supported 6 peer leaders to gain experience of leading and supporting other young people in their local youth club, and opportunities to MC a music stage at a local festival. The Art Room, our new visual arts project with young carers, includes mentoring for young people to take on leadership roles in their group. If you’d like to help us make more opportunities for young people have a look below at our Young Trustees information and Young People’s Advisory Group.
Daisi has Young Trustees on our Board. We work closely with our Young Trustees so that they can tell us how we can help them to feel fully supported and enabled to influence Daisi practice, programmes and governance. If you are age 18-25 and would like to know more about becoming a Daisi Trustee, please get in touch to find out more.
Depending on our current projects, Daisi can arrange volunteering opportunities. These can be helping out at one-off events, or getting involved in a longer-term role. Daisi is a charity and so when volunteers help out it really does support our work. As a volunteer you also gain new skills and experiences, and meet new people. “It really has been an honour and life-changing year working with Daisi and DYS Space. It’s built up my confidence to apply for the vocal job at JJ’s, so thank you for all the support again.”
